Over the next few weeks we’ll be profiling the Miller SoundClash finalists; getting to know the DJs who will be flying to Las Vegas to compete for a chance to play alongside Dannic at Drais! Today we are speaking with Paraguay’s entry - Charlie & Zulu.
Tell us in one sentence who you are and where are you from?
“We are the guys from Paraguay who come to party and hope to stay for a while.”
Where did your love of music first come from?
“We’ve been musicians since we were kids. At first we were more into hard rock and punk, then we got into dance music after going to lots of festivals. Since then, the more dance music we listen, the more we love it!”
How long have you been DJing?
“We’ve been DJing since January of 2014.”
Do you produce music also?
“Yes, actually we started producing dance music before DJing.”
What’s been the highlight of your career so far?
“Closing Above & Beyond’s show, in our hometown because of the amazing reaction and feedback we had from the crowd.”
Tell us about the success as a DJ you’ve had in your own country.
“We have shared the stage with a lot of big artists who we have always admired, like Kryder, Don Diablo, Paris Blohm, Sander Van Doorn, Starkillers, Moguai and others.”
How does it feel to win your local Miller SoundClash competition? Tell us about your experience in the competition so far.
“It feels great. We’re really happy and grateful for the opportunity that Miller is giving us. The competition in our country was a big challenge for us because of the good DJs which we were competing with.”
How much does it mean to you to have made it to this stage of Miller SoundClash?
“It means everything! This is our biggest chance so far to make the world know our music.”
How do you plan to stand out over the other DJs in Las Vegas? How will you be preparing for the finale?
“We always try to surprise the crowd with a mix of really fresh and known music, with remixes or mashups so we don’t just play Beatport’s top 10 as it is. It always turned out good for us!”
What makes you unique compared to the other international finalists?
“We are trying to reach the competition with the largest amount of our own music. Playing unreleased stuff is what makes a set unique.”
Las Vegas is the EDM capital of the USA, with major DJs playing every weekend. If you could meet and hang out with one of these DJs in Vegas, who would it be and why?
“We are big fans of the music coming out of Size Records, so we would be very happy if we get to know a member of the size family, as they call themselves.”
Who from dance music’s elite do you most respect and take inspiration from?
“Steve Angello because of his way of thinking, he inspires us to always stand out by making different things and always try to innovate, not just copying other people’s stuff.”
How important is it for competitions like Miller SoundClash to give aspiring DJs the chance to show their talent to the world?
“There are so many talented new artists making a lot of good music, so maybe this kind of chance can change their careers.”
Tell us a bit about your home country - how is the electronic music scene where you are from?
“Since last year it grew a lot. Now we have a couple of local festivals and also international festivals like Life in Colour and Road to Ultra. Also some clubs have a busy schedule of internationals artists playing their shows.”
