DJ Mehdi has tragically died in an accident in Paris at the age of 34. Our deepest sympathies go out to his friends and family.
DJmag understands that he was at his home in Paris with a group of friends celebrating the birthday of Riton, his partner in Carte Blanche, when the floor or roof he standing on collapsed causing him and three friend to fall what has reported to be seven or eight metres. Riton, aka Henry Smithson, is said to be the only person not to have fallen.
Mehdi, born Mehdi Favéris-Essadi, was one of the first to twist hip-hop into new electro shapes, making a couple of albums for Ed banger in the noughties and producing a number of notable tunes and remixes.
Latterly he teamed up with Riton to form Carte Blanche, and had been playing at the UK’s Bestival at the weekend. The Social Club in Paris is to close tonight as a mark of respect for the tremendously talented and influential DJ/producer.
Tweets have immediately been flooding in from across the DJ world on Twitter:
