It is with regret that we must announce the cancellation of our annual Miami pool party, which was set to take place at Kimpton Surfcomber hotel on Wednesday 18th March as part of Miami Music Week.
The news follows the announcement that all pool parties set to take place on Miami’s South Beach are to be cancelled until further notice, according to a statement released by City of Miami Beach Government today (12th March).
In a press conference this afternoon regarding the current pandemic of the novel coronavirus, COVID-19, representatives of the City of Miami Beach Government announced that they had invoked a State of Emergency.
Speaking at the press conference, representatives of the City of Miami Beach Government, including City Miami Beach City Manager Jimmy Morales, said: “Based on the advice of healthcare and emergency management professionals, as well as the recent action of the county and state government, and the federal government, our City Manager Jimmy Morales is invoking a declaration of state of emergency that will allow him to exercise certain powers our charter entrusts with him. This could include closure of clubs and venues... it could even include curfews in certain areas of town…”
When asked what this means for the numerous pool parties and events expected to take part as part of Miami Music Week (16th to 22nd March), the representatives gave the following statement: “They are either not being issued or... they are being withdrawn. We are cancelling all those as we can.”
A subsequent statement from City Manager Jimmy Morales, shared via twitter, confirmed that the municipality will also "refrain from issuing special event permits for gatherings of 250 people or more for the next 30 days".
We apologise to all affected by the cancellation, and by the spread of spread of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19). Information on refunds will follow shortly.
