Bandcamp has announced it will donate 24 hours of profit to support “racial justice, equality and change” later this month.

On June 19th, the online music store will donate 100% of its profits to the NAACP Legal Defence Fund. NAACP, a civil rights organisation founded in 1909, describe their mission in the 21st century as ensuring "the political, educational, social, and economic equality of rights of all persons and to eliminate race-based discrimination". 

Bandcamp has revealed that over $7.1 million was spent on the platform’s second “fee-free” day last Friday (1st May), with 100% going straight to the artists and labels.

It’s the second time the music-sharing platform has waived its own revenue share since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, with the first “Bandcamp day” on 20th March resulting in $4.3 million being spent on music and merch.

Bandcamp has announced that it will waive its revenue share on the first Friday of every month for the next three months. 

Bandcamp is waiving its revenue share again on 1st May. 

On 20th March, in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, the online music store and platform took no cut from purchases made on music and merch for a 24 hour period. With tour cancellations and festival postponements leaving countless members of the international music community out of pocket, the move was met with immense positivity from artists and fans alike. In total, $4.3 million was spent on music over the course of 24 hours, all going straight to the creators.
