Blip Discs will pass all bandcamp fees directly to artists to support East Africans impacted by coronavirus.

The London-based label and brainchild of Tom Blip, Blip Discs, which features releases from Glowing Palms, Mubashira Mataali Group, O'Flynn, and Tom Blip & Swordman Kitala, has announced that all profits from Bandcamp sales will be passed straight onto the artist.

An emergency coronavirus fund for musicians, worth up to €40million, has been launched in Germany. 

GEMA, the German performing rights organisation, made the announcement today, Monday 23rd March, with the intended recipients songwriters and composers. 

Artists earned $4.3 Million on Bandcamp last Friday, with almost 800,000 items sold through the platform, which had announced it would waive its fees for 24-hours in a bid to support musicians and labels during the coronavirus pandemic. 

According to Bandcamp, sales were more than 15 times the norm for a Friday, with peak demand seeing a staggering 11 items bought per second. Imprints such as Hyperdub also announced they would not be taking any cut from revenue, so 100% of cash would go directly to artists in those instances.

Jimmy Asquith's London-based label, founded in 2013, has released some of dance music's pivotal releases.

Today (20th), the imprint has released the 'Lobster PLUR' series, which spans three releases and 35 tracks, raising money for mental health charity Mind, and homeless charity Shelter. Money from the records will also go to "an independent fund for a number of contributing artists to help give back to the music and wider community during these uncertain and strange times."
